A two-part workshop to foster space for PoC to learn the fundamentals of Yoga Asana (physical postures). By breaking down the most common of poses and basic body anatomy, Minerva will guide folxs through two 2-hour workshops, so that you walk away feeling more aware of your body and how to safely meet each pose in group classes for ease and safety. There will be breath and pranayama exercises to aid in the connection of mind, body, spirit; a brief breakdown of the meaning of yoga and its philosophy and of course, loads of laughs, fun, work and love! You'll walk away feeling more confident in group classes and with a renewed connection to your body.
Monday, January 22nd & 29th from 5:30-7:30pm.
Limited space, so be sure to reserve yours!
Why Yoga? Why just us?
At its core, yoga is a way of engaging with life in a way that allows us to be able to control our mind to find ease, versus allowing our minds to continually drive our every move. There is no need to rattle off the many forms of stress we endure on the daily but whether we realize it or not, the constant bombardment of stress on our mind, on our bodies and our breath continually builds up. Take a moment and ask yourself: how often do you feel run down, tired/exhausted, fuzzy brained or get sick? Beginning a physical yoga practice is a step towards reclaiming your health.
As people of color, we endure a variety of levels of stress, in which the creation of spaces for us to simply be is vital to our well-being. This workshop is special to Minerva's heart and all PoC are welcome of all ages.
"I finally nudged my partner into coming last night, who is generally very resistant to new things, but since last night he has remarked several times on how nice it was to feel so much gratitude in the space you create. I myself am increasingly appreciative each week for the space you create and how gently but firmly you push POCs to reclaim space, release our stress, and continue to build such a warm but empowering community." - Aradhana Tiwari
